Daal Makhni


Ingredients Of Daal Makhni

  • 1 cup whole black urad dal (soaked overnight)
  • 2 tbsp rajma (kidney beans, optional, soaked overnight)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp butter + 1 tbsp oil
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander for garnish

How to Make Daal Makhni

  1. Pressure cook soaked dal and rajma with salt and turmeric until soft (4–5 whistles).
  2. In a pan, heat butter and oil. Add cumin seeds, then sauté onions until golden.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste, cook for a minute. Add tomato puree and spices. Cook until oil separates.
  4. Add cooked dal and rajma. Simmer for 30–40 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add cream and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  6. Garnish with coriander and a dollop of butter.
